OBJECTIVE: To determine the accuracy of the diagnostic performance of the inflammatory response score in acute appendicitis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study was carried out during the period of 2018, patients were included who met the inclusion criteria and a clinical picture suspected of acute appendicitis who subsequently underwent appendectomy; the score was obtained according to the AIR score, they entered the surgery which performed the appendectomy and the result of the pathological report was obtained. The AIR score variables studied were: age, gender, vomiting, lower right quadrant pain, rebound, fever, leukocytosis, neutrophilia and CRP.
RESULTS: 53 patients who underwent appendectomy were studied. It was obtained that the accuracy of the test is 56%, sensitivity 26%, specificity 72%, positive predictive value 77% and negative predictive value 21%.
CONCLUSIONS: The AIR score is a tool that helps us to make a confirmation diagnosis in acute appendicitis.
