Abstract

The clinical case of a gastric perforation produced by a trichobezoar is presented, in a 14-year-old female patient who attended the Emergency Service of the Hospital Nacional Ramiro Priale Priale EsSalud Huancayo (HNRPP) in October 2020 for abdominal pain radiating to the shoulders, oral intolerance and no stools for 72 hours. Trichobezoars are often associated with psychiatric illnesses such as trichotillomania and trichophagia, usually occurring in young adolescent women. The gastric trichobezoar (GT) is the most common variety of bezoar found in the stomach. We report a case of a very large trichobezoar that occupies most of the stomach and summarizes the publications that deal with the etiology of the trichobezoar, the diagnostic difficulties and its management.
