Abstract

OBJECTIVE:  To determine the frequency of the main risk factors for heart failure in a hospital in the Peruvian Andes during the period 2018.

CONCLUSIONS: The most frequent risk factors that are present in HF in the high altitude hospital in 2018 were: valvular heart disease, arterial hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, atrial fibrillation and cor-pulmonale.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study design was quantitative, descriptive, observational and cross-sectional. A data collection sheet was applied, descriptive statistics were used, and frequency tables were used for the presentation of qualitative variables.

RESULTS: The study population of 124 cases had a mean age of 69 ± 15 years. The female sex was present in 58.87% of the chaos, 90% were older than 65 years, the occupation of housewife had a frequency of 41.60% and the place of residence was Huancayo in 72.58%. The frequency of the main risk factors was: valvular disease (73.39%), HTN (62.10%), PHT (58.06%), atrial fibrillation (33.87%) and cor-pulmonale (25.81%).

CONCLUSIONS: The most frequent risk factors that are present in HF in the high altitude hospital in 2018 were: valvular heart disease, arterial hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, atrial fibrillation and cor-pulmonale.
