OBJECTIVE: To establish the difference in the proportion of post-surgical complications in patients appendectomized by laparoscopic surgery for uncomplicated acute appendicitis who received prophylaxis and antimicrobial therapy in the Hospital Nacional Ramiro Priale Priale EsSalud Huancayo in the 2015-2018 period.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Applied research; observational, cross-sectional and analytical study. The population studied was 420 patients operated for acute uncomplicated appendicitis operated by laparoscopic appendectomy and who received prophylaxis and antimicrobial therapy during the 2015-2018 period. An ad hoc instrument was used for the present investigation.
RESULTS: There is no significant difference in the proportion of post-operative complications according to complications of grade I (p = 0.273), II (p = 0.337), IIIa (p = 0.398) and IVb (p = 0.477) in patients appendectomized by laparoscopic appendectomy who received prophylaxis and antimicrobial therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: There is no significant difference in the proportion of post-operative complications in patients appendectomized by laparoscopic appendectomy who received prophylaxis and antimicrobial therapy (p = 0.053).
